Georgia was born April 6, 1928, in Columbia, S.C., and was the daughter of the late Herbert and Bridie Rudd Cordle.
Georgia graduated from West Buncombe High School in Asheville, N.C. She then obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn. After college, Georgia moved to Elkton to work at Merck & Co. as a lab biologist, where she met her future husband. She was later co-owner and operator of Cook's Grocery, Cook's Drive-In and Cook's Laundromat, all in Elkton. She was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Elkton, where she taught Sunday school for many years.
On April 22, 1951, she married Loring Russell Cook, who preceded her in death on May 11, 2011.
She is survived by three daughters, Alisa Smith and husband, Ken, Kama Miller and Anita Westfall and husband, Danny; son-in-law, Jeff Herring; three granddaughters, Alexandria Michael, Brianna Herring and Kristin Herring. She is also survived by a sister, Elizabeth Ann Young and husband, John, of Asheville, N.C. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lora Cook Herring.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Elkton with the Rev. Robert W. Smith Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton.
