Mrs. Pherigo Dies Suddenly

County Native's Rites To Be Held Friday

Mrs. Martha Pherigo, 79, widow of June E. Pherigo, died at 7:00 p.m. yesterday at the Rush County Memorial Hospital. She had been in failing health for some time, but only became seriously ill yesterday morning, when she was taken to the hospital from the home of a daughter, Mrs. Glen Creek, of near Rushville. Death was due to complications.
She was a resident of Shelby county all of her married life and was born in Hope, July 18, 1879, the daughter of George W. and Minerva (Ziegler) Bruner. She was married to Mr. Pherigo at Hope, September 21, 1904, and he preceded her in death December 31, 1950. Since the death of of her husband, Mrs. Pherigo had made her home with her three children, all of whom survive. They are Mrs. Carl Devening, New Castle, Robert E. Pherigo, Shelby township and Mrs. Creek. Six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two brothers, Ross and Haymond Bruner, both of Hope, also survive.
Mrs. Pherigo was a member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and the Gleaners Sunday School Class and the Missionary Society of that church. She was also a member of the Shelbyville Rebekah lodge.
Funeral services will be held at the Ewing Mortuary Friday at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Miller cemetery. Rev. Lyall Pittman, pastor of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home at any time. (The Shelbyville News, Aug. 21, 1958)
