Final Rites Held for Dr. L. A. Kahnke
Funeral services for Dr. L. A. Kahnke who died suddenly of a heart attack March 12 were held Thursday of last week in St. Ann's Catholic Church with Rt. Rev. Monsignor English officiating.
Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: Frank Sheeran, George and Thomas O'Toole, Lawrence, Herbert and Lyle Kahnke. Burial was in St. Ann's cemetery. The Arnoldt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Lawrence Arthur Kahnke was born December 28, 1892, the son of George and Mary Kahnke of Waseca County. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart high school, Waseca and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska.
He began practice in Janesville in 1912 and was active until the time of his death. In the fall of 1954 he was cited at a Chamber of Commerce dinner for his service to the community. He had been a member of the local School board for 18 years, during which time the auditorium and gym were added. He proposed the restoration of Lake Elysian and with other helop carried the plan to its conclusion.
He married Teresa Hayden of Janesville, June 6, 1917. His wife and two children, Dr. Mary Jeanne Kahnke of Vancoucer, Washington and Joseph Kahnke, 1541 Edgewater Ave., St. Paul and one grandson survive him. One son, Lawrence Eugene preceded him in death, also one brother, Vincent. Three sisters and six brothers also survive him: Miss Genevieve Kahnke, Waseca; Mrs. Timothy McGuire, Mrs. Irene Schouf, George, Edward, Rayfield and James Kahnke, Waseca; Hubert and S. L. Kahnke, Janesville.
