Louise first saw Francis when he was playing basketball at the police gym. They met at a club called the "Blue Bird" where many firemen associated and danced. Francis says he got the cream of the crop when Louise married him. All the other firemen were jealous of him. He was a 35 year old bachelor and no one thought he would ever marry. He always said he got the best looking woman and is proud of all his children and grandchildren. After going together off and on for about three years – one night they were sitting in a movie when mother leaned over and whispered in Dads ear that she would marry him. He was overwhelmed. Dad said it wasn't a real romantic relationship, but she learned to really love him. In Dad's Patriartical blessing it said that men would die on the right and left of him, but not touch him. He said he could feel the bullets breeze by his head, but was never touched. Dad always had a sharp memory for facts. Especially for dates and financial matters. Louise died in her sleep on July 25, 1987. Francis lived by himself until the following February when he fell over a large garbage can that a car had hit the night before, he broke his thigh. After a stay in the hospital and six weeks in a nursing home he went to live with his daughter, Margaret. At the age of 94 Francis still has his sharp memory for past events.
