MRS. JANE CAULKINS DEAD
Lived With Her Son in This City for 11 years

Was 97 Years Old Last April - Funeral Will Be Held at 3:30 Tomorrow

Death brought to a close an interesting career at 9 o'clock last night, when Mrs. Jane W. Caulkins, mother of Col. W. R. Caulkins, died at his home, corner of Garrison avenue and Macon Street. Mrs. Caulkins was over 97 years of age.
Her death was due to old age. For the past six weeks she has declined rapidly, but previous to that time she was able to be up and around the house as usual. For the past few days her condition was such that it was seen that it was seen she had no chance for recovery.
Born April 6, 1814 in Herkimer county, N. Y., she has seen this country develop wonderfully. She herself was a remarkable woman, talented and educated. She could talk interestingly of her experiences which were of the pioneer days and to the last her faculties were unimpaired.
Mrs. Caulkins, nee Jane W. Whitbeck, was married at Avon, N.Y., their home and then moved to Ohio. Dr. Caulkins died in Cleveland 16 years ago. At that time they were living with Col. Caulkins and for 38 years she was made her home with her son. She was the last of a family of nine. Her mother also lived to ripe age, dying at the age of 98.
Eleven years ago she came to Carthage in company with Col. Caulkins and has lived here since. Her disposition endeared her to many and all will regret to learn of her death.
Besides Col. Caulkins she leaves another son, Frank W. Caulkins of Webb City, MO.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Caulkins home. Rev. F. M. Weddell of Grace Episcopal Church will conduct the services.
The body, accompanied by Col. Caulkins and S. K. Ottt, will be taken to Cleveland, Ohio, where interment will be made beside the body of her husband. They will leave tomorrow night.
