Edward Newton Crawford was the son of Alexander Crawford (1783-1851) and Sarah Amanda Culp Crawford (1799-1863). According to the Early Records of Fishing Creek Presbyterian Church, Chester County, SC, he was received into the church "on examination" on September 22, 1850. Also according to the church records, Edward and Ellen Ashe were married there on July 8, 1852. They were the parents of eight children.
