Beloved Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather.

Preceded in death by parents, Karl & Josephine; wife, Greta (Beckstead); grandson, Michael; brothers, Charley, George, Benny; sisters, Josephine, Bertha, Helen. Survived by children, Jane (Roland) Jurgensen, Duane, Tom (Elizabeth), Judy (John) Ramsey; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Joe was born and raised on the farm in Foley, MN where fieldwork was still done with a team of horses. At age 18, he contracted polio and, against all odds, he battled through it. He was able to walk again although his legs never regained full strength.

He married Greta in Nov. 1954 to start a new life. He bought land in Plymouth Township in 1958 and moved into their new home in 1959. He and Greta had four children, but she died suddenly at age 29. Against the advice of Social Services, Joe raised the four young children by himself.

For the rest of his working life, he was a cement contractor and master brick layer. He was an inventor and wood craftsman who built his own sawmill.
