Left a wife, Mary Ann, and a son John Henry who was about 5 years old.
The grave is under a massive oak tree in a field and both Stephen and his wife and son are listed on the marker, although the dates for both Stephen and Mary Ann are incorrect based on documents at the Calaveras Co. CA Archives. The marker was erected in 1909,over 50 years after the parents died.
At one time, the burial ground in this area had about 40 wooden markers but they were destroyed years ago by a ranch foreman so the cattle would have more grazing room so there is no firm evidence of exactly where the old graves were.
