U.S. Congressman. He served as village clerk of Royal Oak, Michigan, (1905-06), as town treasurer, (1907-08) and as village assessor in 1909. He graduated from the Detroit College of Law, in 1910, was admitted to the bar and commenced the practice of law in Royal Oak, Michigan. He was village attorney, (1911-21), assistant prosecuting attorney for Oakland County, (1918-19), Mayor of Royal Oak, (1921-22) and a member of the board of education, (1910-28). In 1933, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-third Congress and to the next eleven succeeding Congresses, serving until 1957. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 84.
