Annie T. Milligan was born July 12, 1886 in Michigan, ND to parents Robert & Emma (Behme) Milligan. Annie was the oldest of the family and had 6 siblings - Alice, Emmet, Marie, William, Edward and Richard.

Annie graduated from Michigan HS somewhere around 1905. She continued with her education at the Normal in Mayville, ND where she obtained her teaching degree in 1906. Annie taught school at Michigan rural schools and Berwick, ND. In her Michigan years, Annie was part of local orchestras where they performed at local wedding dances, barn dances and the like. She also participated in home town talent plays at the Opera House.

She married Wilford A. Harned at Helena, MT. Following their marriage, they lived in Montana and San Francisco, CA. He died in 1955. The Harned's had one son, Robert W. Harned born in 1916.

For many years, Mrs. Harned was a contributor to the Nelson County Arena with her poems under the pen name of Anne O 'the West, and also provided interesting bits of history and events of her old home town in the Mailbag section of the paper.

Annie passed away January 3, 1968 and had been a patient at St. Michael's Hospital for several weeks following a stroke. Funeral services were held at the Chapel of St. Anne's Guest Home in Grand Forks, ND where Mrs. Harned resided. In addition, a vigil service was conducted by the members of the Third Order of St. Frances. Burial will be in the Michigan Cemetery in the spring.
