Chico Enterprise, Monday, January 4, 1937, pg 6 col 2: "Engagement of Couple Announced. Durham – The engagement of Miss Vivian Ford and Virgil P. Pyle was announced at a New Year's dinner at which Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Wageman were hosts to relatives and close friends.

Miss Ford is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Ford and is a graduate of the Durham Union High School with the class of 1935. Pyle is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Pyle of Durham."

Chico Enterprise-Record, Thursday, April 23, 1981: "Virgil Pyle. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Brusie funeral home for Virgil Marion Pyle, 73 of Durham. He died Wednesday at a local hospital. Pyle was born Nov. 12, 1907, to Lewis and Nellie Belle Kent Pyle in Gainsville, TX, and was reared near Oklahoma City, OK. He moved to California in the early 1930's and married the former Vivian Ford in 1937. Pyle worked at Diamond International in Chico for 31 years, until his retirement in 1965. He has lived in Durham since that time.

"Survivors include his wife, Vivian of Durham; a son, Jimmie of Yankee Hill; a daughter, Patricia Hawkins of Concord; three brothers, Pat of Durham, Ray of Dayton, and Jack of Chico; three sisters, Ivy Hedglin of Durham, Edna Elliot of Durham and Nellie Belle Prescott of Paradise; and seven grandchildren.

"The Rev. Ted Davis of Thermalito will officiate at the services. Joyce Bae will be the organist. Casketbearers will be Michael Hawkins, Mark Hawkins, Jimmie Pyle Jr., Greg Hutton, Gary Hutton and Charles Lindsay. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Brusie Funeral Home. Burial will be at Glen Oaks Memorial Park."
