W. E. Auten, 92, Dies; Final Rites Wednesday
Wesley E. Auten, 92, a resident of Marion for seven years, died Sunday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Miss Viola Auten, 1394 Tenth street.
Born July 31, 1858, at Princeville, Ill., Mr. Auten taught for 20 years in Washington county rural schools and later was rural mail carrier at West Chester, Ia. He retired in 1923. Prior to coming to Marion he resided at Oskaloosa for 14 years. He was a member of the Christian church at Oskaloosa. Mrs. Auten died in 1943.
Surviving in addition to Miss Auten is another daughter, Mrs. E. E. Tish, three grandsons, a granddaughter and two great-grandsons of Marion.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Powers funeral home, Oskalossa. Burial will be in Forest cemetery there. (Cedar Rapids Gazette, Cedar Rapids, IA, January 8, 1951)
