Garnet Elizabeth McKinney, 92, of Marshalltown, entered into eternal life, July 7, 2011, at Villa Del Sol in Marshalltown. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 11, 2011, at Hope United Methodist Church. Interment will take place at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 10, 2011, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home. Memorial contributions to honor Garnet may be directed to Hope United Methodist Church. Garnet was born Oct. 1, 1918, to Raymond and Minnie (Heiffner) Gale in Liscomb. She graduated from Liscomb High School in 1936. On Nov. 11, 1939, Garnet was united in marriage to Roy McKinney. They made their home in rural Marshall County until Roy was drafted into the U.S. Army. During the war years she worked, and following the war, became a homemaker. Garnet enjoyed reading and crotchet. She sang Gospel and Country music with her husband. Garnet would play the fiddle and Roy would play the guitar. Her great love was writing poetry and was rewarded with many awards and publishing honors which came as recently as last year.

She volunteered many hours at the Iowa Soldiers Home and at the hospital for the Red Cross. She enjoyed visiting and playing cards with her friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Rodger McKinney, of Wiota, and Carolyn McKinney DeLay, of Atlantic, a daughter-in-law, Carole Hunter McKinney, two granddaughters: Beth McKinney Lovett and Dawn DeLay Lamprecht and a grandson, Daniel DeLay. She will also be missed by five great-grandchildren: Tate Lovett, Kenneth Crowe, Samantha DeLay, Ryan DeLay and Amber Fouts, a niece, Karla Prather. her cousins; James and Richard Gale and a sister-in-law, Pauline Kinder.

She joins in eternal life her husband of 41 years Roy, her sister, Vera Gale Kyhnn, a brother Carl Gale and her parents.
