The daughter of George Lee and Mary Stiffler Wertz, she married Jacob Dunkle on April 7, 1840. They had 14 children.

Mrs. Matilda DUNKLE, wife of Jacob DUNKLE, of Valley Mills, this county, died after a brief illness on the 25th of July, aged 78 years and 4 months, surrounded by her family and aged husband, who is 88 years old. In the death of this good woman the family have lost a most affectionate mother and the community a most beneficent and helpful friend. In early life she united with the Evangelical Lutheran church, being confirmed by the Rev. Wm. Yeager at Bedford. She was faithful unto the end. Mrs. Dunkle is survived by a brother and sister, viz., John LEE of Centerville, O. and Mrs. Anna HAFER, of Cumberland Valley. The following children also survive her: Mrs. John LYSINGER and Mrs. W. H. POHLMAN. of Shelby, O.; John DUNKLE of Mansfield, O.; Mrs. H. P. WILLIAMS, of Everett; Mrs. John M. WEICHT, of near Everett; A. J. DUNKLE of Altoona; Mrs. D. V. MILLER, of Pittsburg; Mrs. Adam WALLACE, of Valley Mills, and Shannon DUNKLE, on the home place. Solemn and impressive services were held on Sunday afternoon, July 29, at the Brethren church in Snake Spring Valley. The services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. W. Lingle, assisted by Revs. Stonebraker and Richey. Interment in the Hershberger cemetery.
