George was a soldier in the Civil War. He was a member of the 96th Ohio Infantry Volunteers. He became sick near Vicksburg, Mississippi and later died in the Jefferson Barracks military hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. His body was shipped home and buried here. His, brother, Charles, read in a newspaper of his brother's illness. He went from Indianapolis to get his brother and bring him back to Indiana. George died before Charles arrived, so he brought his body back to Sunbury for burial.
He is buried with his parents and his four sisters who died young, Catherine, Eliza, Mary Jane and Esther.
