Lucretia was born on August 23, 1845 as one of the daughters of Green & Elizabeth ( Avery ) Butterfield.

Lucretia's Mother, Elizabeth Avery was born in Oswego, New York. Lucretia's Father, Green Butterfield was born in New York.

Green and Betsy, with their young family, came to Illinois in 1834 and settled in Precinct # 4 of the Schuyler County area.

In 1845, the Green Butterfield family moved from Schuyler County, Illinois to where Galesburg, Illinois now stands. At the time of their move, Galesburg was almost a trackless prairie.

In 1861, the Butterfield family moved to Macomb, Illinois. Lucretia's father, Green died shortly after this last move.

Lucretia passed away on June 1, 1868. She was 22 years 9 months 9 days old at the time.

Her final resting site is located to the north of her mother Betsy Greenfield in the North East section of the Gibson Cemetery.
