US Congressman. Born in Aurora, Indiana, he moved with his parents to Muscatine County, Iowa, in 1852. He served in the Iowa State House of Representatives (1870-74) and was also the chairman of the Railroad Committee of the Iowa House. In 1875, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-fourth Congress serving until 1877. Not a canidate for re-election, he accepted an appointment as United States Indian agent of Indian Territory Oklahoma, serving (1879-87). In 1888, he relocated to California, engaged in the real estate and was president of the Los Angeles Board of Aldermen (1892-96). He died at age 68 on August 10, 1908, in Los Angeles, California.
