Barbara Sizemore Dean was born May 27, 1907 in Pumpkin Valley, Eidson, Hawkins County, TN. She was the fifth child of thirteen born to Hillery Walter Sizemore and Ida Carter Sizemore. She married Amos Dean also from the valley and they moved to Akron, OH to find work. They hadn't been up there for very long when she came down with the streptococcus bacterial infection Erysipelas. In the days before antibiotics, it quickly lead to her death on Mar. 13, 1927. Her body was brought back to Pumpkin Valley from Akron, OH via train for burial in the family cemetery. She was only nineteen years old and had no children. It was sad that she died so young.
