Our beloved one, Ruth Singleton Pope was one of eleven children born to Rev. John Thomas and Anna Bishop Singleton, patriarchs of a pioneering family in the C. M. E. church. She was born in Miledgeville, Georgia on Jan. 26, 1906. At an early age the family moved to Barnesville, Ga and then on to Atlanta where she received her education and remained the rest of her life. Ruth later furthered her education at Payne College in Augusta, Ga and then attended the former Porou School of Beauticians in Atlanta before becoming self employed for many years out of her home as a beautician. She met and united in Holy Matrimony to Rogers William Pope who preceded her in death and three children were added to the union. Her youngest daughter Paula Grier also preceded her in death. She was a faithful member all her life at Atlanta's Butler Street C. M. E. Church. Her affiliations included, a social club with her oldest and dearest friends. Ruth Singleton Pope departed this life in Atlanta on Feb. 22, 1984. We commend her to the serenity, peace and blessing of eternal life.
