Son of Jane Thompson and Jonathan Doan(6), Elijah(5), Israel(4), Daniel(3), Daniel(2), Deacon John Doane(1). Joel Doan lived for a number of years at Yarmouth, Ontario, Canada. He married Fanny Minard, the widow of his brother, Joshua Gillam Doan. He was one of the leaders in the McKenzie Rebellion of 1837-38. He escaped into the United States and finally settled in California.
