Born at Plumstead, PA. Son of Elijah Doan(5), Israel(4), Daniel(3), Daniel(2), Deacon John Doane(1). Married May 1786 to Jane Thompson. In 1789, he moved from Pennsylvania to 200 acres of the Sugar Loaf area near Port Colborne, Ontario, lot 21, Wainfleet Twp., and lived there for 20 years. In 1810 (1813) he moved to the Sparta area of Yarmouth Twp., lot 19, conc 4, Elgin County where he was one of the first settlers. Being onf of the first settlers there and a man of energy and influence, he was known in old age as "The Patriarch of Yarmouth." He did not sell the property in Wainfleet until 1818.
