SYCAMORE — Effie Scoggins Metcalf, 82, of Sycamore, died Monday, July 25, 2011 at Heritage Health Care in Ashburn following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

She was the daughter of the late James William and Effie Leo Smith Scoggins. She was the widow of Hugh E. Metcalf, and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She was a retired sales clerk, having worked at Hobby's and The New Yorker Store in Ashburn. She enjoyed working with her flowers, gardening and spending quality time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Bennie and Beverly Metcalf of Sycamore and Dennie and Linda Metcalf of Ashburn; her grandchildren, Steven (Tiffany) Metcalf, Kristen (Matthew) Nutt, Matthew (Heather) Metcalf, Eric (Krystal) Metcalf and Whitney Metcalf, all of Ashburn; and her great-grandchildren, Macy Graham, Hallie, Ashley and Christopher Metcalf, all of Ashburn. Also surviving are her sisters, Leoties S. Camp, Guynelle S. Cranford and Jimmie Ruth S. Metcalf, all of Sycamore.
