Edward A Bloom was born July 19, 1873 in Franconia Twsp, 2 miles south of Shafer, Minnesota. His parents were Gustaf and Carolina Bloom.
Mr. Bloom was baptized on Aug 3, 1873 and confirmed May 30, 1889 on the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church at Center City. His membership continued until his death.
On January 25, 1898, he married Wilhelmina Charlotte Mattson. For 52 years they lived a happy life together and as a family until June 20, 1950 she passed away.
Mr. Bloom was a farmer here in this community until 1906. On account of ill health they bought a property on Russell Beach and operated that as a summer resort for many years.
On the death of Mrs. Bloom in 1950, the property was sold and Mr. Bloom went to live with his children both in St. Paul and Forest Lake. Since 1957 he has resided at Green Acres Rest Home at North Branch.
Six children were born to Edward and Wilhelmina Bloom. Gilbert of St Paul, Ellis of Forest Lake, Chester of Red Wing, Loren of Washington DC, Eunice of Hawthorne, California and Vernita who together with her mother preceded Mr. Bloom in death, Vernita having died October 31,1944.
A sincere Christian gentleman Mr. Bloom was daily happy in the Lord, He was pleased with his room and care at the Green Acres Rest Home. He always looked forward to occasions for Christian fellowship whether in company with other guests at the Home or alone in his own room.
With gradually failing eye sight he found it difficult to read his Bible or other literature, but was always so delighted to be able to hear Swedish services conducted over the radio by various Lutheran Pastors.
He was always happy to see his pastor and showed a keen interest in the life of the church.
