John C. Baker; headed silk firm
John C. Baker of 32 Lynacres Blvd., Fayetteville, died yesterday in a local nursing home. He was the retired president of the Patrician Silk Co. of Syracuse.
Mr. Baker was born in Sioux City, Iowa. He was a graduate of the University of Chicago, Class of 1915. He served as a captain in the Army Infantry in World War I in Europe.
Mr. Baker came to Syracuse in 1921, associating with the Onondaga Litholite Co. In 1923, he joined the Patrician Silk Co. and retired as president in 1948. He traveled extensively through Europe and Central America after his retirement.
He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, Onondaga Golf and Country Club, the Gyro Club and a former member of the University Club of Syracuse and the Cazenovia Golf Club.
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Mrs. Katherine Conde Baker; a son, Howard S. Baker of Lake Placid.
Services will be at noon Saturday at the Fairchild and Meech DeWitt Chapel, the Rev. Dr. Alexander C. Carmichel officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
