Kate C. Brooks died at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Presbyterian hospital of diabetes.

She was born July 18, 1870, at Chanute, Kan., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gilbert and came with them to Iowa in 1875. She lived on a farm in Bennington township until 1892, when she was married to C.G. Brooks, who survives. The couple lived at Dewar for 10 years, when they removed to Waterloo.

Six children were born to the union, two being deceased. The others are Leo J., Ray D., and Gilbert W. Brooks, Waterloo, and Claude C., a sailor in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Mare Island, Cal.

Other relatives who survive Mrs. Brooks are her mother, Mrs. Henrietta Gilbert; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Hardin, Mrs. Lulu Lichty; a brother Joe Gilbert, Waterloo, and another brother, Ed Gilbert, Denver, Ia.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. from Linden M.E. church and from the home at 2:15 pm. with Rev. C.W. Harrop in charge. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery. The body may be viewed at Kistner's funeral home until 9 a.m. Tuesday.
