Son of Benjamin & Louisa Green Kelly; his first marriage was to Polly Roberts in 1807; after her passing he married Mary Hamilton on 20 May 1819 in Robertson Co, TN.

From the Christian Advocate 15 Dec 1877, written by Rev. John William Bell:
"The Rev. Greenberry Kelly was born in Maryland, Dec. 13, 1781. His father was Benjamin Kelly; his mother Louisa Green. He learned to walk while on the road to North Carolina. Here in Stokes County, he made his home till 23 years old. He professed religion in 1798; joined the M. E. church in May 1799, at the house of John Doub, father of the Revs. Peter, Michael, and Joseph Doub, at which house his mother lived and died. He was received by the Rev. Daniel Asbury. He moved to Washington Co. VA, in 1805. Here was married to Polly Roberts. Father Kelly used to tell that he split ten thousand rails for Col Preston who owned the farm on which Martha Washington College stands. From VA, he moved to Robertson Co. Tennessee, in 1811. Here he lived on one farm sixty-six years. He served as a soldier in the War of 1812. He was an official member of the Church nearly seventy years. In 1817, his first wife died, and in about two years after he married Mary Hamilton who still lives. He was licensed to preach in 1826 by the Rev. Zachary Taylor, of the Kentucky Conference. Bishop Waugh ordaned him deacon in 1841. He leaves two sons, preachers, Jepptha, who is on the superannuated list of the South-West Missouri Conference; William 56 years old , local preacher on the Pleasant Grove Circuit. He peacefully breathed his last Nov. 9, 1877....."
