Mary was born July 3, 1925, in Lee County, Ky., to Henry Clay and Martha Combs Rader and had resided in Richmond since 1941. She was a homemaker. Mary enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family.
Survivors include her daughters, Geneva "Jenny" Steele of Richmond, Maxine Carpenter and husband Ted of Annville, Ky., and Wanda Shipley SaeYiem and husband Ponch of Indianapolis; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Lucy Sharp of Richmond, Abraham Rader of Richmond, Bill Rader of Kentucky, Martha Duncan of Tennessee, Henry Clay Rader Jr. of Kentucky, Dr. Emanuel Rader of Kentucky, Cora Duncan of Washington; many nieces; nephews; friends; and a beloved pet, Lil' Lady.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vodie Spencer who died in 1992; children, Kenneth Lee Spencer, Geraldine Owens, William Spencer and Carolyn DeGraw; great-grandson, Jacob James Shipley; and brothers Arthur and Lucion Rader.
A public funeral service for Mary Susan Spencer will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, in the Earlham Memorial Mausoleum with Rev. Henry Clay Rader Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
