John S. (believed to be Seaborn), the elder son of Reuben and Pheletia Cash, married his brother-in-law George England's sister, Sarah Ann England, prior to the war. John, George, and another brother-in-law, Nathan Gunn, all joined the Confederacy at Mt. Elba February 22, 1862. Service records indicate that John served in Company D, 2nd Arkansas Calvary. John and Sarah Ann's daughter and only child Mary was born August 16, 1862. John was killed during the war, however the battle and place of his death is not known. More than likely he would have died some time following the Battle of Corinth, Mississippi. His last muster roll was dated September 26, 1862 and was just a little over a month after Mary was born.

Following the war, many of the young widowed wives of the war remarried and started their lives over. Sarah Ann remained a widow and with her young daughter lived next to her parents in Cleveland County as noted in the 1870 census. By 1880 Mary had married and Sarah Ann, listed as widow in the 1880 census, continued to be with her daughter living with her and her new son-in-law. In the early 1890's Sarah Ann moved with Mary's young family to central Texas. There in the 1890's at age 49 Sarah Ann finally married again to a Mr. Hair, his age at the time was 74. He died in the late 1890's and Sarah Ann died several years later on January 18, 1908. On her head stone Mary listed her mother's name as Sarah Ann England Cash Hair. Mary continued to live with her family in central Texas until her death on May 26, 1946 at age 83. On her death certificate was listed her parent's names:

John Cash and mother's maiden name,
Sarah England.
