Edward J. (Walkie) Wachtendonk Sr. was peacefully discharged from St. Michael's Hospital while under Ministry Hospice Care.

Ed was born Nov. 12, 1927, in Kimberly, the son of Ted and Margaret (Lamers) Wachtendonk. He was 83 years old.

After graduation from high school, Ed enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He served with the 13th Air Force in the Philippines. After his honorable discharge, he worked for the Wisconsin Telephone Co. and the AT&T Corp. as a national account service manager. He retired in 1985 after 38 years of service. Ed belonged to the Catholic War Vets and the American Legion, as well as the Knights of Columbus and the Elks. Years ago, he sang with the Stevens Point Barbershoppers, the Resurrection Choir at St. Stan's, and with a group that sang at the county home. Ed enjoyed time with his family camping, waterskiing and fishing. His great-grandsons knew him as "Grandpa Donk" and "Old Grandpa." His woodworking talents gifted many.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Darlene (Schoelzel); daughter, Joleen (Dan) Trustem; daughter-in-law, Donna Wachtendonk; granddaughter, Katye (Troy) Stilen; great-grandsons, Brennen, Jaeden, and Landen; stepgranddaughter, Jena (Brian) Brune; stepgrandson, Ben (Jennifer) Trustem; and great-grandsons, Tanner and Cael. Ed is also survived by sisters, Dorothy (Gordon) Gehrman, and Josie (Don) Salka; and many nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his son, Edward Jr. (Skeeter); four brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation will be Monday, July 25, 2011, at St. Stanislaus Church from 10 a.m. to the time of services. A Mass of Christian Burial, in celebration of Ed's life, will begin at 11 a.m. The Rev. George Thayilkuzhithottu, MSFS, will officiate. Burial will be in the Guardian Angel Cemetery
