The Santa Cruz Sentinel, May 16, 1894, page 3:

Mrs. Alfred Imus
"In the midst of life we are in death," is an old and a very true saying, and never was it so vividly demonstrated than in the sad and sudden death of Mrs. Alfred Imus. Little did she think that when she closed her eyes in sleep it would be for the last time on earth. Yet such was her lot, and her untimely death has been a most cruel blow to her many relatives and friends, who can scarcely realize that she is no more.

Mrs. Alfred Imus was the youngest daughter of the late Judge Henry Rice, who died about three years ago. The deceased was born in Illinois, but came to Santa Cruz when she was a mere girl, and where she had resided almost continuously. She was well and favorably known.

Besides leaving a husband she leaves an aged mother, Mrs. Minerva Rice, and three sisters, Mesdames U. W. Thompson, J. Bennett and N. Meyrick, who deeply mourn her loss.
