Son of David Tate (1789-1868) and Mary (Polly) Chamberlain (1788-1872), of Grainger Co. Married Mary Jane Parsley (b. 1840) in Jefferson Co., TN, in 1858; the couple had three children. Died in the Civil War. Originally buried in the Chamberlain family cemetery in May Spring, TN; body removed in the early 1940s to Martha Sunderland Cem., Hamblen Co., to make way for Cherokee Lake. After the death of David Tate, Mary J. Parsley married James O. Senter. (Although David's headstone reads "David Tate," his correct name was "David Edward Tate, IV," according to one of his descendants.)
