Funeral services for Gladys McDonough Branch, age 104, of Mt. Vernon, will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 21, 2013 at the Harvey Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Shannon Hassel and Rev. Reginald McDonough officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery with Col. David Cole, Dr. Richard Cole, Michael McDonough, Troy Cole, Jim Wright and Jay Reynolds serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 PM Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the funeral home. Mrs. Branch died on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Mission Manor Nursing Home. She was born on July 16, 1909 in Alexandria, LA the daughter of Milton and Ida White. She married J. C. "Mack" McDonough and he preceded her in death in 1959 then she married Loyd Branch in 1961 and he preceded her in death on January 5, 1998. Mrs. Branch was a school teacher having taught English and girls' basketball at Spring Hill High School. She received her bachelor's from Louisiana Normal now (Northwestern State University) and received her Masters from East Texas State University. She was a member of First Baptist Church Mt. Vernon.
She is survived by her son; Rev. Reginald McDonough of Crossville, TN; two daughters, Evelyn Cole of White Hall, AR and Myrna Wright of Blooming Grove, TX. Seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents and twin brother GM White, brothers, Alphues White, Jesse White, and Benny White and one sister Joy Wattis.
In lieu of flowers, the familiy has asked that donations be made to the Mt. Vernon First Baptist Church Adult Ministry program.
