Mrs. Mary A. DeVrieze

DUNKERTON – Services for Mrs. Mary A. DeVrieze, 54, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Dunkerton with burial in the Fairview Cemetery in Dunkerton.

 

Mrs. DeVrieze died Wednesday at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo. She was born July 30, 1925, in Calamus, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Ryner. She married Cyrill DeVrieze Sept. 23, 1950. He died in 1975.

 

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Janet Cochran of 6312 Lafayette Road, Evansdale, Mrs. Jackie Thompson, Julie DeVrieze and Linda Voss, all of Dunkerton; her stepmother, Mrs. Oliveen Harvey of Grand Mound; Three grandchildren; a brother, Roland Rayner of Florida; four half brothers, Dale, Glen, Darrell, and Steve; and three half sisters, Bonnie, Marlias, and Nancy.

 

Friends may call at the O'Keefe and Towne Funeral Home, 250 National Drive, Waterloo, from 3 p.m. Sunday until 11 a.m. Tuesday.

[Mary Alice Ryner DeVrieze was the only natural child of Edward Delbert Ryner and Hazel Lucetta Hartson Ryner. She had an adopted brother Roland Del Ryner.

 

Mary Alice's mother died and Del Ryler then married Hazel's cousin Olivene Jane Hartson. Mary Alice had a strained relationship with Olivene which resulted in her and Roland being kept apart.

 

She married Cyrile (Cyril) De Vrieze 9/23/1950 in Iowa.

Mary Alice had 10 children, the first from an unknown fathers, then six children with Cyril. Those 7 children were removed from their home in March 1958 and adopted to other family's due to poor living conditions.

Mary Alice latter had three more kids with Henry D. "Harry" Voss.]
