Mrs. Grieve, 98, of Chatfield, died Tuesday (Nov. 8, 2005) at her home.
Gladys Ferguson was born July 20, 1907, in a log cabin in Jordan Township, rural Chatfield. She attended District 176 country school through eighth grade. On Oct. 29, 1925, she married George Grieve at St. Paul Lutheran Church, and they farmed in the rural Chatfield area for 56 years. They moved into Chatfield in 1981. She was a homemaker; served on the District 176 School Board; served several times as president and secretary of the ladies aid; and was a former president of Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She was a member of a daytime bowling league and the Neighborhood Thursday Club; was a fund-raiser for the Red Cross; and enjoyed gardening, craft work and braiding rugs.
Survivors include two sons, George Jr. of Indio, Calif., and Lyman of Chatfield; two daughters, Dolores Simpson of Gardena, Calif., and Mildred Pack of Chatfield; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Ferguson of Chatfield. She was preceded in death by her husband in February 1993, a son, three brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
