Valentine Bieber emigrated to America from Hirschland, Alsace. Valentine's three wives and five children are well documented in the Hirschland records.

Valentine's wives:
1. He married Ottilia Schneider February 21, 1746. She died December 10, 1747 age 19.
2. He married Anna Catharina Juncker. She died January 29, 1762 age 33 1/2.
3. He married Catharina Stroh February 15, 1763. She may be the "Catron" mentioned in Valentine's will of 1782.

Valentine Bieber sailed from Rotterdam on the ship ''Betsey". He arrived in Philadelphia October 26, 1768 and was accompanied by his wife Catherine, three sons, Nicholas, Adam and John, and one daughter, Christina; also by a brother Jacob and one or two sisters. The three sons worked their passage over the Atlantic on the ship. Such persons were called Redemptioners. Stapleton in his memorial of the Huguenots, page 24 of the Bieber History, says: "In 1768 arrived from Duex Ponts the brothers, Michael, Valentine and Jacob Bieber, a branch of the Dewalt Bieber family. These brothers settled in Berks Co., Pa., south of. Kutztown,
Pa.'' End of quote.

According to Penna. German Pioneers, by Ralph Beaver Strassburger, LLD., there was no Michael Bieber on the ship "Betsey" that came Oct. 26, 1768, but the name taken for Michael as seen in Penna. Archives and Rupp was ''Nicol.'' Ship Betsey, Oct. 26, 1768----Feldon Bieber, Nicol Bieber, Jacob (X) Bieber. The above are facsimiles of those who could write their names on the ship record as shown in Penna. German Pioneers. Feldon Bieber was Valentine Bieber, the father, Nicol Bieber was Nicholas Bieber, the oldest son of Valentine, who was little past 17 years and was required to register. Adam Bieber, second son of Valentine, was past 14 years, and John Bieber, third son of Valentine, was past seven years and not required to register. The third name on the list was Jacob (X) Bieber, who could not write and signed with his X mark.

The town in Alsace province from which they came was called in French Dux, Ponts, in German Zweibruecken, which means in English, Two Bridges, and can be seen in modern maps of Germany.

Valentine Bieber settled in Windsor Township, Berks Co., Pa., and belonged to the Lutheran Church. His three sons, Nicholas, Adam and John, served in the army during the Revolutionary
War under General Washington. After the war, in the year 1784.Adam Bieber (Beaver) located in Muncy Township, Lycoming Co., at that time Northumberland Co. His two brothers Nicholas and John also located there about the same time, as records will show in connection with each one. In an old manuscript written about 1880 by George Glen Wood, M. D., Muncy, Pa., we learn that "Valentine and Jacob came Oct. 26, 1768. They were Redemptioners (i. e., they contracted with the ship's owners to work out their passage money on this side of the ocean). Previous to their coming, relatives of theirs had preceded them and settled in Berks Co., Pa. Valentine settled permanently in Windsor Township, Berks Co., and Jacob in Maxatawny Township. (Later Northampton Co., Pa.). In 17791 Valentine Bieber was assessed with 100 acres, 2 horses and 2 cows. He had at this time three grown sons, Nicholas,
Adam and John. They were assessed as "single Freemen," and each paid a tax of ten shillings. In 1784 Valentine's son John was assessed with his father's land, 93 acres, 1 horse and 2 Cows. Nicholas, Adam and John were assessed as citizens of the same township (Windsor), but without property." End of quote.

N. B.----The compiler (The Rev I.M. Beaver) has found the above named Jacob Bieber and wife Elizabeth in the church records at Stone Church, Kreidersville, Northampton Co., Pa., where he had five children baptized from 177 4 to 1798. See Stone Church; records. In 1780 his name appears among the communicants. What became of him and his family we know not. Valentine Bieber was a member of the Lutheran Church and evidently worshiped in Zion Church, Perry Township located, about 3 miles northeast of Shoemakersville, Pa., and about a mile south of Windsor Castle. It is in the northern part of Perry, which formerly was a part of Windsor twp. The first log church is said to have been built in 1761 or 1762. This is a fine Union church today, Reformed and Lutheran, and has been Union from the beginning. Some of the early communion church records have been lost and after a careful search of all the records available, we were not able to find his name or his wife's name, although we believe his wife is buried on the adjoining cemetery, while Valentine died while on a visit to relatives in Virginia, as will appear later on. We however found the name of his son Adam Bieber, who had two children baptized by Rev. Daniel Lehman, who was the Lutheran pastor at that time. (1) child, Catharina, born June 12, 1783, baptized July 13, 1783; parents, Adam Bieber and Magdalena; sponsors, John Reber and Catharina. (2) child. Anna Maria, born Oct. 26, 1786, baptized Nov. 5, 1786; sponsors. Leonhart Reber and Magd Denner.

Valentine Bieber died on Pass Run in Page County Virginia, about three miles north of Luray. This is where Conrad Beaver owned 410 acres of land and his son Michael owned 210 acres. Valentine was probably visiting these Beavers when he died.
