☆~ VETERAN, WORLD WAR II (1939-1945) ~☆

Charles James "Chuck" Goodman, 83 years of age of Holdrege passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Chuck was born on May 2, 1928 in Rockwell, North Carolina the eldest of four children born to John Clifford and Addie Mae (Morris) Goodman.

Chuck was raised in Rockwell where he completed 8th grade leaving school to care for his mother's needs. He completed his General Education Diploma(G.E.D.) in 1989 while living in Moriarty, New Mexico.

Chuck pursued many and varied career opportunities including sales, business ventures, truck driving, ministry, and farming - his true passion. After military service in the Army Air Corps in 1945-1946, he began his future in agriculture farming with his father-in-law, Victor Mattson, north of Loomis. He then drove over-the-road trucking for Time DC from Denver, Colorado; Los Angeles, California; and Moriarty, New Mexico. While in New Mexico he was ordained as a minister through Calvary Chapel, Albuquerque, New Mexico. He then pastored a small Calvary Chapel in Moriarty, New Mexico. His love for farming brought him back to Phelps County where he farmed corn and soy beans for nineteen years prior to retirement in 2009. He enjoyed many hobbies and activities including wood working, building a couple of houses himself, and photography.

While serving in the Army Air Corps in Denver, Colorado, Chuck met and was united in marriage to Rhoda Mattson on June 9, 1946. They celebrated their 65th wedding this past June.

Chuck was a member of the Emmaus Evangelical Free Church north of Funk, Nebraska and the Moses Hill Evangelical Covenant Church of rural Holdrege.

Besides his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by one sister in infancy; sister, Dora Lee Agnew; and brother-in-law, Orville Sullivan.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Rhoda of Holdrege; three sons: Charles "Allan" Goodman and his wife, Lynne of Garden Grove, California, Larry Eugene Goodman and his wife, Janet of Wichita Falls, Texas, John Carl Goodman and his wife, Lola of Alexandria, Virginia; one daughter, Sharon Mae Anderson and her husband, James of Garden Grove, California; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Also mourning Chuck's passing into the Lord's arms is his sister, Brenda Swanson and her husband, Bruce of Gold Hill, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Carolyn Sullivan of Loomis; brother-in-law Floyd Agnew of Lexington, North Carolina and a host of relatives and friends.

Interment was in the Moses Hill Cemetery, Phelps County, NE.
