He attended Detroit schools which included Burrough's Middle School & South Eastern High School. In the height of the depression he had to quit school & go to work with his father & brother to support the family. He married Mary Marguerite Wion on the 3rd of April 1937 at Bethany Methodist Church in Detroit, Michigan. They had 5 children together: Diane, Thomas, Laurlee, Ralph & Monna.
He was a carpenter all of his life like his father, grandfather, uncles & brother. For several years, after his father retired, Victor & Versal had a Contracting Company called Washburn Brother's until about 1950. He worked another approximately 25 years for Barton-Malow Construction, before retiring in 1967(?).
Verse or Washy were his nicknames. His hobbies were sports especially bowling, playing cards, horse shoes, fishing, helping his married children with home improvements, making puzzles & he even took up rug hooking in his retirement years.
Colon cancer ended his life on 11 Jun 1987 at Saint Clair Shores, Michigan. He was cremated & a River Birch tree was planted in his memory at the Grosse Pointe Woods Waterfront Park facing out over Lake St Clair.

Gravesite Details
His ashes were spread into the Detroit River on the bank of Belle Island near the Detroit Yacht Club by his wife and oldest daughter on the first anniversary of his death 11 June 1989.
