It is believed that America was the daughter of Marcos Cabrera and Nieves Caballero and was born in Cuba. Her siblings were Marcos, Jr., Florinda, Esteban, Christina, Rita and Jesus. She had two half sisters, Leocadia and Christina (Leocadia and the second Christina were daughters of Henrietta Tudge). In addition to the siblings named above, there were several siblings and half siblings which died very young.

America married Antonio Perez June 28, 1890 in Key West, Monroe, FL. Antonio and America appear in the 1900 census, living in Tampa, Hillsborough Co., FL with Antonio's family, Juan and Pablena. Antonio is listed as a brother to the head-of-household and America is listed as a sister-in-law. Both are shown as being born in Cuba. America had Cuban born parents and Antonio had a Spanish born father and a Cuban born mother. Antonio and America had been married 10 years in 1900. This census states that America had 5 children with 3 living, Antonio, Heremo, and Mercida. The month of birth for America is August but the year of birth is not recorded.

In 1910 Antonio and America were living in Tampa, FL with the following children: Antonio, Gironimo, Mercedes, Maria, and Blanca. By this time America had given birth to 8 children with 5 living.

In the 1920 census Antonio and America were living in Tampa, FL with their children Blanca 16 years old, Marie 18 years old and Harry 21 years old, all born in Florida. However, in this census they report that Antonio was born in Florida and America was born in New York and that both had Cuban parents.

By 1930 America was living with her daughter, Blanca, who is married to Jose Gonzalez. She is listed as a mother-in-law to the head of household. Another person named Catolio Perez is listed as father-in-law to the head of household. It is thought that Catolio might be a nick name for Antonio. Tampa city directory entries show that Antonio was alive in 1930 and living with America in the same house as Blanca and Jose. By 1933 the Tampa city directory lists America as the widow of Antonio, but although they had moved, America was still living with Blanca and Jose.

America had several nieces and nephews by her brother, Esteban Cabrera and his wife, Quintina Perez Cabrera (memorial #24065855). They were Obdulio (memorial #93562829, married Modesta Roche ), Sergio (memorial # 3967354), Nieves (95323881, m. Raymond Iglesias), Juana (memorial #33345133, m. Rodriguez), Esteban Jr. (memorial #24062171, married Winona Lucile Del Valle), Jose, and Leocadia Quintina (memorial #95172078, m. Acosta or Costa). Death records for Quintina Perez Cabrera and for Antonio Perez appear to indicate that they were siblings.

This author would like to make it clear that the above statements are based partially on assumptions involving when America, the daughter of Marcos, would have been born and that she would have been the correct age to marry in 1890. There were no dates of birth or parents listed on the marriage record or death record viewed on Family Search. Corrections are welcome.
