Don Lee Murphy, 73 passed away Monday, July 18, 2011 at the VA Hospital in Asheville, NC. He is the son of the late Willard G. and Cora Lee Setzer Murphy. Don was a native of Gaston County. He served four years in the Air Force at Luke Air Force Base, Glendale, Az where he worked on the F84's and F100's. He worked at the Air National Guard for many years. Don was a machinist and worked on C130 Cargo Planes. He achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and was on the Rifle Team and the ANG Honor Guard. Don was a member of All Nations Church in Fort Mill, SC. His hobbies were reloading ammunition and carving wooden walking canes. Survivors include his son, Robert "Robbie" Lewis Murphy; Brother, Hewell Gene and Gerry Murphy of Mt. Holly, Nieces and Nephews. Funeral Service will be held 11:00am, Thursday, July 21, 2011 at The Bumgardner Chapel with Pastor Mahesh Chavda officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, 7:00 - 8:30pm at McLean Funeral Directors of Belmont Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery with Pastor Carl Overton officiating. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Joel William and Dorothy T. Murphy. McLean
