He was born on September 22, 1894 in Fielding, Utah, a son of Willard K and Alice Leonard Welling. He was raised and educated in Fielding, Utah, and attended Bear River High School and Utah State University.
He married Millie Adams on May 31, 1917 in the Logan LDS Temple.
An active member of the LDS Church, he had served as Scoutmaster, Ward Teacher, and a member of the Missionary Committee in the Fielding LDS Ward.
He was a retired Foreman of the Sugar Room for the Utah-Idaho Sugar Company.
Surviving are his widow, Fielding, Utah; two sons and two daughters: Ronald Welling, Fielding, Utah; Norval LaVere Welling, Ogden, Utah; Mrs Raymond (Adair) Brown, Layton, Utah; Mrs Frank (Barbara) Gardiner, Salt Lake City, Utah; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two brothers and one sister: Marvin W Welling and Leonard Welling, Fielding, Utah; Mrs E Ray (Deneivieve) Miller, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Burial was held in the Fielding City Cemetery, Fielding, Utah.
