Austin Howard, a man of respectable standing in the community, an overseer in the factory and heretofore trusted and respected, left home some weeks since under very unfavorable circumstances. After arranging his affairs, making some provision for his wife and children, and leaving the management of pecuniary matters to a son-in-law, he left home, & although several weeks have passed, there is not the slightest knowledge of his whereabouts. Since his departure there have been many scandalous rumors, many probably without foundation. Certain it is, however, that a girl who had been employed in the factory and had boarded in his family, left about the same time, and has not since been heard from.
(In the 1880 census for Montague,MA, Austin Howard is living with a new wife, named Sarah, 23 years younger than him. He is not found in the 1900 census.)
Children: Henry M Howard, Charles A Howard, Mary C Howard Wright, Lurana Graves Howard Scott, Ann Elida Howard Ketcham, and Herbert Fernando Howard.
