James Travis Tyler Sr. joined his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 13, 2011 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas.
James was born May 6, 1937, in Abilene, Texas to Travis and Bessie (Fudge) Tyler. During his younger years he served in the National Guard and volunteer firefighter. He worked hard working odd jobs in dishwashing and ranch work among others during his youth. Later in life he took on a career as a forklift operator and truck driver. He was employed at Wayne Moore Pipe & Supply close to a decade. Later he was employed by Salta Pipe & Supply for over 20 years, never missing a day, before he retired in 2002.
James's passion in life was singing and writing songs relating to his faith in Christ and his dear love for his family. Among family favorites were "Barbara Ann" relating to his wife and "Chatter of Little Feet" written about his grandson, Jared. James Travis Sr. was an avid fan of western classics, especially Gun Smoke and all John Wayne films. He also loved watching wrestling with his family along with fishing, camping, hunting, and riding horses. James cherished his family and friends, always excited to be around his children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews.
He met the love of his life, Barbara Ann Keeney, and they wed in 1964. They lived a happy and fulfilling 46 year marriage until her sudden death last month on June 10. Also preceding him in death were his parents, his brother Raymond Tyler, his sister Nellie-Jo Tyler, his daughter Florenda Renee Tyler, a sister-in-law Margaret Starr, brother-in-law Dick Fancovic, nephew Chad Fancovic, parents-in-law Buck and Imogene Keeney, and grandson Marcus McChesney.
James Travis leaves behind his sisters Annabelle Tyler and Mary Fancovic, brother RB Phillips and wife Betty, his two sons James Travis Tyler Jr and girlfriend Diane, Brock Isabell and wife Gaylynn, his son-in-law Riley Jordan, two daughters Wendy McChesney and husband James McChesney, Tammy Jimenez and husband Freddy Jimenez.
He will sorely be missed by his 10 loving grandchildren Jared James McChesney IV, Alex McChesney, Peyton McChesney, John Jordan and wife Amber, Denise Jimenez-Vale, Tanya Jimenez, Jaramie Strayhorn, Katt Willis, Savannah Isabell, and Madison Isabell.
