YORKTOWN - Catharine Ann Hogge Bender, 70, a lifelong resident of York County, passed away Friday, July 15, 2011.

On June 13, 1958, three days after her graduation from York High School, Catharine went to work for York County, and after 53 years, was still employed as the Chief Deputy Circuit Court Clerk until her recent illness. She was a member of Grafton Christian Church, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a loving mother and a wonderful friend.

Catharine was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Bobbie Lee Bender.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia "Patty" Egbert and her husband, Samuel of Margate, Fla., Susan Bender of Grafton; and a son, William "Billy" Bender of Gloucester. She is also survived by a brother, James R. Hogge and his wife, Patricia of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including Raymond Wilson of Middlesex, Shirley Saylor of Grafton and Dr. Sylvia Hudgins of Poquoson.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 18, at Grafton Christian Church, with the Rev. John Falk officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
