The obit as it appeared in the Gaffney Paper.
Wilson Blaken "Blanken"
Gaffney-Funeral services for Wilson Blaken, 50, farmer of Draytonville Community who died at the hospital here Thursday after a brief illness will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 at the residence with the Rev. B. L. Hoke officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
Mr. Blaken was a native of Hancock County, Tennessee, but had lived in Cherokee County for about 10 years.
Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Jame "Jalie" Fletcher Blaken; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Trakas of Spartanburg, Mrs. Leona Murray and Miss Emily Blaken; 2 sisters, Mrs. Florence Young and Mrs. Maude Slemp, one brother, Alonzo Blaken, his mother, Mrs. Nancy Blaken, and 3 grandchildren.
Notes: This obit was very difficult to track down, because the last name had been misspelled. According to the death certificate, Wilson Blaken (again misspelled) died in Cherokee County Hospital after a 3 day stay. He was 50 years, 7 months, and 17 days old. His father is listed as John Blaken and mother is listed as Nancy with the maiden name Maness. Both parents were born in Tennessee. His address at the time of death was Rt. 1, Gaffney, SC. He died at 4:35 p.m. The Death certificate states that he died from cerebral hemorrhage with left hemiplegic. (I think this is stroke with weakness on the left side.) Also due to generalized Atherosclerosis (plaque build-up in arteries) and myocardial degeneration (heart muscles weakening).
