Margaret E. Summers, 100, of Hermitage, and formerly of Kerrmoor and Curwensville, passed away July 5, 2011 at the Nugent's Convalescent Home in Hermitage.

Born May 16, 1911 in Reynoldsville, PA, she was the daughter of Edward and Rachel (McPherson) Kirkwood. Mrs. Summers was a Registered Nurse having worked at the former Clear Haven Nursing Center now the Mt. Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield and was retired from Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh. She was a graduate of the former DuBois School of Nursing.

She wed Peter Clay Summers on June 27, 1939 and who preceded her in death in November of 1965. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and infant daughter Jane Rae Summers, brothers Frank, Tom, Wayne, Jim, and Dale Kirkwood, and sisters Ruth Goss, Pearl Painter, and Madeline Lindenpitz. She was the last member of her generation.

Surviving are 2 children James Summers and his wife Sally of Hermitage and Peter Summers and his wife Shirley of Clearfield. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Summers were held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home, Inc. of Curwensville on July 7 at 11:00 a.m., with the Reverend Scott Schultz officiating. Interment was in the Zion Cemetery Berwinsdale, PA.

At the request of Mrs. Summers, there was no public visitation.

The family suggests contributions be made to the Faith Bible Church Curwensville, PA
