DIED – October 2, at his residence, in this place, of paralysis, Persius E. Harris.

Mr. Harris has been a patient sufferer a long period of time. His disease, however, struck the fatal blow some seven months ago which was to terminate his earthly career. We could not do justice to the memory of such a man in the short space usually allotted to obituary notices, and we think a brief notice sufficient.

Mr. H. has resided in Rockville almost from the beginning, as a town. He has been an active business man for thirty–seven or eight years here, and the writer of this article dares to assert that no man can present a cleaner, purer record in all his dealing for such a period of time than the deceased. He “dealt justly”, “walked humbly”, and “loved righteousness”. In all enterprises for the public good, he was second to none in liberality. To the deserving poor, his hand was ever ready to assist. To the unfortunate he gave sympathy, with pecuniary aid when needed.

He was an advocate of right, regardless of consequences, and never sought popularity. He was an example of correct deportment in all the walks of life. Our community will long feel the loss of such a man. At the time of his death he was connected with the Christian Church of this place. We sympathize with the church in the loss it has sustained, for he certainly was a useful member. But he has gone, and those who knew him best, have no doubt but he is now enjoying everlasting rest from his labors.
