According to "The Descendants of Jacob Longyear of Ulster County, New York" by Edmund J Longyear, 1942: "He was a farmer, a Methodist, a great hunter and trapper and a soldier in the War of 1812". This source also states that "Abraham" Longyear died 1 Aug 1890 in Kingston, but the attached newspaper obituary published in The Kingston Daily Freeman, Kingston, NY, Wednesday, October 9, 1889 states that he died on 8 Oct 1889 in Kingston.
