David was the son of Cornelius W. and Eliza Jane (York) Burgess. He married (1) Sallie M. Patterson and they were the parents of one son: William Emmit He later married (2) Fannie L. Kivett in 1892 and they had seven children: David Mitchell, Walter Earsie, Lonnie Marcellus, John Lillian, Sue Elizabeth, Lucy Ellen and Glenn.

RAMSEUR, Sept. 26, - David A. Burgess, 81, died early this morning at Barnes-Griffin clinic, Asheboro, after illness of 10 days. Surviving are two daughter, Mrs. C. B. Grimes and Mrs. H. B. Vickery, of Ramseur, route 2; five sons, Emmett, Mitchell and Marcellas, Ramseur, route 2; Ersie, Ramseur, route 1, and Glenn, Camp Hood, Tex.; 17 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lena Brooks, Ramseur; three brothers, Charles F. Burgess, Liberty, route 1, and P. R. and John W. Burgess, Ramseur, route 1. Mr. Burgess had spent his entire life in the Ramseur community, where he was connected with the Ramseur Furniture Manufacturing company for 43 years. Funeral will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Parks Cross Roads Christian church, where he had been a member since boyhood, and burial will be in the church cemetery.
