Robert Franklin Owen, age 80, of Fredericksburg, Texas passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013.

Robert Owen was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on January 4, 1933, the son of Dudley Herbert Owen and Jewel Effie Sparks. He was the great-great grandson of Stephen Franklin Sparks who fought in the Battle of San Jacinto in 1836. He helped capture Mexican General Santa Anna which eventually gave Texas their freedom. Growing up in Corpus Christi he graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1950. He attended Del Mar College for two years. At this time he was drafted into the Army. He was in active duty for two years and for six years was in the reserves. He was honorably discharged and went on to graduate from The University of Texas in Austin, Texas in August of 1958. He received his degree in Petroleum Engineering. He married Jean Helen Aldrich on August 31, 1958. He was transferred to Louisiana and then to Mexico City, Mexico and lived there for five years with his family. He was transferred back to Houston, Texas where he spent 40 years of his life. He was an active member of John Knox Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas. He started his own business which was The Morgan Company, a water purification company. During his career, he had the opportunity to travel all around the world. He finally retired in 2005 at the age of 72. He and his wife Jean moved to Fredericksburg, Texas in November of 2006.

He is survived by his three children, daughter Julie Owen Yarbrough and husband Michael of Bend, Oregon, son Larry Owen of Culpeper, Virginia and daughter Suzanne Owen Turner and her husband Chris of Fredericksburg, Texas. He has one older brother Joe Dudley Owen and his wife Freda of Spring, Texas. He has six grandchildren Christian and Wyatt Turner, Parris Franklin Owen and triplets Amanda Jean, Brian and Lance Yarbrough. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and his wife Lovell and Sharon Aldrich of Sugar Land, Texas.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 3:00 pm, with visitation an hour prior in the Chapel at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77079. He will be buried next to his wife Jean, they were married for 48 years.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in his memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
