He was born in Martinsville on June 13, 1934, a son of Homer Blankenship and Helen Cobbler Blankenship, both deceased.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Missouri during the Korean Conflict and retired in 1996 from Bassett Oil and Equipment where he had worked for 36 years. He was a member of Fort Trial Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Carlene T. Blankenship of the home; two daughters Nancy Hillsman of Durham, N.C., and Delia Olson Barnes of Cary, N.C.; one sister, Nellie Branscom of Ridgeway; six brothers, William Blankenship of Bassett, John Blankenship of Ridgeway, Charlie Blankenship and Clifford Blankenship, both of Collinsville, Stuart Blankenship of Stuart and Raymond Blankenship of Axton; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services with the Rev. Kenneth R. Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
